This illustration is close to my heart. I love listening to the wind blow through the trees and hearing the birds sing. But when I'm not looking up at the sky for birds, my eyes are glued to the ground. I'm looking at the new growth of forest. I adore the little plants just taking hold of life. I admire the time it takes for one little seed to grow into a huge tree. These little microforests show what kind of species is possible and what could growing be years from now even when I'm gone.
I'm no expert in ferns, mosses, and baby plants so I don't think all these species could be found in the same spot but a girl could dream. Plants drawn here are inspired by various understories I've seen. Plants drawn here are wahine noho mauna, hoe a maui, ʻōhiʻa lehua, ʻalaʻala wai nui, pūkiawe, and ʻae.
